Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question for us? Want to know how long it takes to get to Venus? We have no clue! But, if you have a question about dentistry, then we’re the people to talk to! Below, you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions our patients ask us every day. After looking over this page, if you still have a question for us, please don’t hesitate to pick up the phone and ask! We’re always happy to take time to make sure you completely understand your care.

How often should I visit the dentist?

Our own Dr. Patel agrees with the American Dental Association on this one: all patients ages three and up should visit their dentist at least twice a year for a checkup and cleaning to keep their smile looking great and avoid preventable dental problems such as tooth decay, cavities, gum disease, and more.

Why do I need to visit the dentist even if I brush and floss every day?

This is a great question! While brushing and flossing are absolutely essential to your oral health, they simply can’t meet every single one of your dental needs. There are many hard to reach areas in your mouth that you just can’t clean at home, and over time, these spots can develop cavities. A professional cleaning can target those trouble spots. And, by coming to see us regularly, we’ll also be able to catch any issues you might have early and treat them before they can do any real damage to your smile.

Do you see children?

We sure do! At Summit Family Dentistry, we’re happy to treat smiles of all ages whether they are 3 or 103! We’re always happy to serve your most precious smiles.

Why does my tooth hurt?

Unfortunately, dental pain can stem from any number of things, and a few of them can be quite serious. If you have persistent dental pain of any kind, be sure to give us a call so we can figure out the problem and solve it as quickly as possible!

Are root canals painful?

AHA! We knew you would ask this! Truthfully, root canals are actually one the best tools we have for relieving severe dental pain as well as saving teeth that would otherwise need to be removed. We use them to treat severely damaged or decayed teeth, and often, the pain associated with the initial infection gets conflated with the procedure itself. In truth, thanks to modern dental techniques and anesthetics, this procedure is now no more painful than getting a small filling. It’s nothing to fear!

What is the best way to make my teeth whiter?

While there are numerous products on the shelves that promise a whiter smile, by far the safest and most effective way to whiten your teeth is with professional teeth whitening like we offer at Summit Family Dentistry. We can provide you with your own customized take-home kit that will make your smile up to 8 shades brighter while you just sit and relax at home surfing the web, reading a book, or watching your favorite show.

Will you accept my dental insurance?

Yes, and we are also in-network with most private dental insurance providers. To learn how we can use your particular plan to help you save at your next appointment, just give us a call today.
